Premium Service Hurricane Model Maps

FAQ's for 2008 Premium Service Model Maps

Why is the subscription rate lower in 2008?
Mid-Atlantic WX.com is lowering the Premium Service Subscription rate because the model map update cycle will change from 8-12 times daily to 4-6 times daily.

Why is the update cycle being reduced in 2008?
Mid-Atlantic WX.com has paid licensing fees for use of the proprietary software used to generate model maps and data. Needed upgrades to the software (such as importing ATCF data) are no longer being provided; therefore, we are required to manually input some of the data that previously was automated. While we are committed to providing you the best modeling data on the Internet, we can't guarantee doing so every other hour, 24 hours a day. We believe a viable alternative is to schedule model map updates so you'll know in advance when to check for updated data and graphics

Can't you just make everything free?
Actually, we'd like to do just that! However, it is the policy of Mid-Atlantic WX.com to not accept or solicit advertising in any form. Our research indicates visitors find banners, autoplay flash, animated boxes and pop-ups to be annoying and intrusive. We agree and proudly remain totally ad-free. The benefits offered by our Premium Service come at cost to us and a reduced subscription fee has been enacted to cover expenses incurred by providing all the hurricane model map products and services.

OK. Tell me more about model map updates.
When there is no activity in the Atlantic Basin, our products will update shortly after 0Z and 12Z.
When there is an Atlantic Basin INVEST away from land, the model maps will update as close as possible to the 0Z, 6Z, 12Z and 18Z models.

What about named storms close to land?
A tropical storm or hurricane approaching land will be handled much as in the past: maps and data will update at least every 4 hours.

What will Premium Service look like this hurricane season?
It will be nearly identical to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons. All familiar products are offered. You may view all our Premium Service data for last year's Hurricane Felix by clicking here.

Can I still receive text alerts on my cell phone?
Yes, we again offer SMS text messaging in 2008.

What are the 2008 Premium Service options?
Full 24/7 access to Premium Service model maps and data: $15.00 (1-time, no recurring fees).
Above benefits and SMS text message alerts to my cell phone: $24.00 (1-time, no recurring fees).

When can I subscribe to Premium Service hurricane model maps?
Subscriptions will be accepted as of May 25, 2008. Premium Service will be available as of June 1, 2008...or as early as May 25, 2008 if there is an Invest, numbered or named cyclone in the Atlantic Basin.

I have a question not addressed here. How can I get an answer?
